This is so funny to me, because you should have seen the look on my face the day Erik explained his "new system" for keeping track of things. I swear to christ, it was a stack of index cards, in various colors, alligator clipped together, and an astronaut's pen to write with. Seriously. Paper, and a pen. You should have seen him trying to explain the intricacies and nuances of using this system. It was surreal.

I had a hard time not laughing when my son told me about this "new system" as well. It does work though. When he started using it I stopped having to nag and both our lives became much more pleasant. When he packed for college he included his supply of folders and index cards. I'm glad someone thought of showing kids how to keep track of things to do. Most parents are like me and just repeat things over and over without ever actually teaching our young adults a working method of staying organized.

Chris,
You are right...you don't have to use this stuff. For years my M.O was to carry a bound ledger with me everywhere...until I lost it. People lose things, mis-place things, even destroy things(Starbucks should really come up with a little cover to their tops). What the "market" is saying, at least to me, is that there is a need for options to managing my to-do list/GTD/tickler file. Although, I still carry my ledger (some habits are hard to part with), I now have an electronic back-up that offers me some features my ledger just can't.
(Full Disclosure, I am a founding member of The My Tickler File Team)
