Add one: what do you want them to DO (or feel, or think) as a result of your message? (or, what do YOU want out of this interaction)?
And the obvious follow-on: once you've written the message, ask that question again to see if it the message leads the reader to the desired result as well as it possibly can.

Great points, both. Thanks for sharing them. I especially like the follow-on point, because what if I *think* I've figured it all out, written my message, but someone lost some of it in translation. That check-sum moment would be a great point to take another look and fix it up.

As an expert in nonverbal communication, I would also reccomend you be very careful in the delivery of the message. Practice having a neutral face and voice. Ask a freind to reherse with you. It's so easy to be a little to strong or give a sarcastic lilt to your voice and change all those wonderfully crafted words into a totally different message.
